On the occasion of World Food Day, celebrated last October 16, LAINCO held a Workshop to Avoid Food Waste<\/em> in our facilities, in collaboration with the “5 a Day” Association, an<\/a> organization that promotes responsible consumption and a diet based on the daily intake of 5 pieces of fresh fruit and vegetables.<\/p>\n\n

This was an interactive workshop in which the #TeamLAINCO learned concepts about food waste, discovered changes to avoid waste and participated in a hands-on demonstration to apply what they learned.<\/p>\n\n

This activity was part of the actions that reaffirm LAINCO’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/a>, promoting sustainability, care for the environment and the fight against hunger in the world.<\/p>\n

During the workshop; “5 a Day” shared some representative data that we are not always fully aware of. For example: one third of the world’s production ends up in the garbage and 76 kg of fruits and vegetables are discarded per household every year. The association also provided tips for preserving food, managing temperatures, controlling expiration dates and extending shelf life. <\/p>\n

Likewise, different dynamics were carried out in which the attendees were able to participate and put into practice what they had learned. The practical part was given by Nuria Mart\u00ednez, director of the “5 a Day” Association, and Alessandra Huerta, nutritionist, who led the training and the presentation. <\/p>\n

What is “5 a Day”?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

“5 a Day” is a global association that promotes the consumption of 5 pieces of fresh fruits and vegetables a day as a healthy habit to prevent chronic diseases and reduce risk factors. It was born in 1980 in the United States and arrived in Spain in 1998. It is a great reference for methods to apply a healthy, correct and effective diet. <\/p>\n\n
